Admission

The application for public higher education is made annually through a national competition conducted by the Directorate General for Higher Education (DGES).

Applicants for Higher Education via General Admission must:

– Hold a secondary education programme or a legally equivalent qualification;

– Take or have taken in the last two years the national examinations corresponding to the admission tests required in the academic year of their application.

The admission tests required to attend the study cycle conferring a bachelor’s degree are the following:

For the academic year 2015/2016, one of the following combinations of admission tests:

International Student is a student who is not a Portuguese national. The following are not considered international students: nationals of a Member State of the European Union; those who, despite not being nationals of a Member State of the European Union, have been legal residents in Portugal for more than two years; those who apply for admission to higher education via special rules of admission to Higher Education.

The Special Admission Testing for Higher Education for students over 23 years old is aimed at students who were approved in the examinations specifically designed to assess their ability to attend higher education.

The application period runs from 15 July to 15 August, 2015.

The change of studies in national institutions is the act by which a student registers in a different programme than that which he/she enrolled in the last time in a different institution of higher education, with or without interruption of the enrolment in a higher degree.

Re-admission is the act by which a student, after an interruption of studies in a particular higher education course and institution registers and enrols in the same course and in the same institution.

The application period runs from 15 July to 15 August, 2015.

Transfer of national institutions is the act by which a student registers and enrols in the same programme in a different institution than that in which he/she was enrolled.

The application period runs from 15 July to 15 August, 2015.

The following can apply to attend the Separate Curriculum Units:

– Any student of the University of Lisbon who attends a study cycle to which such curriculum unit belongs as elective, or who is enrolled in a study cycle different from the level to which said curriculum unit refers;

– External students to the University of Lisbon, enrolled in other institutions of Higher Education;

– Others, not enrolled in institutions of higher education.
