This cycle of studies was accredited by the Higher Education Evaluation and Accreditation Agency under process no. NCE/14/00191 on 3 July 2015, for a period of 6 years, and registered by the Directorate-General for Higher Education under no. R/A-Cr 186/2015 on 13 August 2015.
On 11 May 2023, the Board of Directors of the Higher Education Evaluation and Accreditation Agency decided to renew the accreditation for a period of 4 years, starting on 31 July 2021 (process PERA/2021/1400191).

WHAT IT CONSISTS OF

The New Cycle of Doctoral Studies in Law consists of two phases: a Doctoral Course, lasting one academic year, and the phase of preparation and submission of the doctoral thesis, lasting three academic years and totalling 240 credits (ECTS). Successful completion of this cycle of studies confers the highest academic degree in Legal Science: Doctor of Laws.

The range of options for research and advanced legal production covers all legal areas, on which the doctoral student can, autonomously, but with the guidance of a Doctor of Laws, develop and present their studies, in the Portuguese Faculty of Law with the largest and most diversified number of Specialists and Professors Doctors of Law and scientific production.

CONTENT

Eleven specialisations are available, with multiple options, covering all legal areas. Deepening the advanced specialisation conferred by this cycle of studies enables doctoral students to carry out research and contribute to the construction of legal science, both on classic, everyday issues and on innovative topics.

WHO IT IS AIMED AT

Masters in Law with a mark of 14 or graduates in Law with a mark of 17 are eligible to apply for the PhD.
