The programmes at the University of Lisbon School of Law are taught on premises and the students must be present in the classes. Students should bear in mind that approval in each course of the Specialization Programme or the curricular phase of the Master’s Programme requires attendance of at least half of all classes, which is why the student should attend classes.

No. Students who were evaluated and who wish to improve their grade may only do so during the resit period of the academic year of enrolment, which shall take place in July of the academic year being attended, up to a maximum of four curriculum units, either for approval or improvement of the grade, according to the general rules.

To obtain information on the thesis formatting requirements, please refer to article 28 and schedules of the University of Lisbon Regulation on Postgraduate Studies, to number 2 of the Clarification of the Rules of the Master’s programmes and to the particulars contained in the forms for submission of the thesis.

In case you choose options 2 or 3 of the form for the Library, you must submit your supervisor’s opinion on this choice.

The Career-focused Master’s thesis should be 100 pages long at most (not including the schedules that can be enclosed to the 3 copies of the final thesis in CD or DVD), and it should be typed with 1.5 line spacing and font size 12. You can use times new roman font throughout your paper.

Along with the application for admission to the exams, the student must submit the following documents:
a)     Forms to submit the thesis:
– Submission of the completed and signed thesis;
– Completed and signed form for the Library;
– Completed and signed statement of originality;
b)     Duly substantiated opinion of the supervisor (it is not compulsory);
c)     8 copies of the final paper presented;
d)     8 copies of the updated curriculum vitae (it is not compulsory);
e)      3 copies of the final paper in CD or DVD;
f)       2 copies of the cover of the work.

Headings and subheadings should use no less than size 12 font.

There is no requirement as to the type of headers, footers, footnotes and margins. In the footnotes the font must be size 10 and line spacing must be 1.

There is no requirement as to the type of binding, you can use binding with an opaque or transparent acetate cover, binding combs with an opaque or transparent acetate cover or a hard opaque cover similar to a hardcover book.

The cover must display the year of completion of the thesis, according to paragraph article 28(a)(1) Order no. 4624/2012, of 30 March, now quoted.
«the cover must display the name of the University of Lisbon and of the organic unit, the title of the work, the name of the student, the designation of the Master’s degree field of study and of its specialization field (if applicable), the type of work submitted and the year of completion of the work (see attached model). In the case of joint degrees, the name of the partner institution should also be mentioned;»

The final score of the study cycle leading to the Master’s degree is awarded by the jury appointed to assess and discuss the thesis, expressed by the formula Pass or Fail. Approved students are given scores between 10-20 from a range of 0 to 20. Thus, the final grade of the Master’s programme is not a weighted average of the curricular phase and the thesis phase of the Master’s programme. However, the final average of the curricular phase of the Master’s programme is disclosed on the Master’s programme curricular phase certificate.

All students must pay tuition, regardless of receiving scholarship or otherwise. Tuition and payment dates also cover scholarship students of the ULisboa Academic Social Services and those who have applied for and await the granting of a scholarship, provided that they show proof of application for the scholarship with the Academic Division during the registration/enrolment period. Except for the registration fee, the school insurance and the first instalment of the tuition, which are paid upon registration. These students must pay all overdue tuition fees no later than the due date of the instalment immediately subsequent to the date of communication of the decision on the granting, or otherwise, of the requested scholarship and of the instalments of the tuitions falling due in the general time limits (articles 5 and 8 of the Regulation of Tuition Fees of the University of Lisbon). In case all the instalments of tuition fees are already due at the time when the decision on the granting or not of the scholarship that was applied for becomes known, the students must pay the full amount of tuition fees within 10 (ten) days from becoming aware of the decision on the granting or not of the scholarship that was applied for.

Students who have not fully paid their tuition fees cannot register or enrol in the subsequent academic year, nor request any certificates or statements for the academic year relating to which they are in arrears, except for debt statements.

The status of the international student governed by Decree-Law no. 36/2014 does not apply to the Master’s and Ph.D. programmes at the University of Lisbon School of Law. Decree-Law no. 36/2014, of 10 March is applicable only to Bachelor’s study cycles (180 to 240 credits) and integrated Master’s study cycles (300 to 360 credits) and the Master’s study cycles of the School of Law are not integrated. The Master’s programmes at the School of Law have a maximum of 120 credits.

You must request the issuance of certificates online through the Online Resources, with your username and password associated to the account Campus@UL.

If you still do not have the credentials for the account Campus@UL or if the ones you received do not work properly, you can request new credentials via email contacampus@fd.ul.pt.

Certificate requests are available at [Enrolment & Requests] -> [Requesting Documents].

Urgent acts: In order to obtain documents, urgent acts can be issued within two days at most, subject to the payment of an urgency fee twice as much the normal cost of the requested act.

To obtain a specific statement, click on «attach documents» at the Online Resources and specify in the comments field: the purposes, the entity that requested it and the elements that must be included therein.

Collection of documents is made in person or by another person with a power of attorney signed by you. You can use any power of attorney template duly issued granting the required powers to the attorney-in-fact to collect the requested documents.

You can send the power of attorney by email together with the documents identifying the principal and the attorney-in-fact.

If you want the original documents to be sent by post, you should send to these services a sealed and pre-addressed envelope. The request must be sent to:

[/vc_toggle]Assignment of Credits/Equivalence[vc_toggle title=”What is the difference between equivalence and recognition of the degree obtained abroad?” open=”false”]

The equivalence to a foreign study cycle allows the holder of a foreign degree to have all the rights inherent to holding a specific study cycle, as taught by a Portuguese institution of higher education. The recognition of the degree solely grants all the rights inherent to having the degree. There is no mention of the specific study cycle of the institution responsible for the recognition. Conversely, the registration of the foreign degree is a simplified form of recognition, which is done by several higher education institutions pursuant to the general decisions of the Committee of Recognition of Foreign Degrees. The recognition of professional qualifications allows its holder to exercise in the national territory the profession for which he is qualified in the Member State of origin, under the same conditions as the professionals who obtained their qualifications in said territory.
Similarly to the case of qualifications obtained in the country where it is requested, the recognition of foreign qualifications may not be sufficient to do a certain job.
