Admission Requirements

The admission requirements of the career-focused Master’s programmes are the following:

  • Bachelor of Laws (or legal equivalent);
  • Foreign higher academic degree of the 1st study cycle (Bologna);
  • Foreign higher academic degree acknowledged by the Scientific Board;
  • Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum that shows that they have an adequate scientific training, as acknowledged by the Scientific Board.

Conditional Admission

According to the Excerpt of the Generic Resolution of the Scientific Board of 12 December 2012 on conditional admission to Master’s and Ph.D. Programmes, “enrolment in Master’s courses is admitted provided that the Bachelor’s programme has been completed until 15 October of the academic year at stake”.

Pre-Bologna Applicants

Candidates who meet the following cumulative conditions may apply to pre-Bologna career-focused master’s programmes (duration of one semester):

  • Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Law in a Portuguese education institution;
  • Curriculum lasting 5 years or more;
  • Completion of the degree in the academic year 2008/2009 or earlier

The courses of the curricular phase comprising the curriculum of the pre-Bologna career-focused Master’s programmes are Legal Methodology and one of the compulsory courses from the relevant programme, as scheduled for the first semester of the relevant academic year.

Application documents

Academic degree completed in Portugal

a) Citizen Card or Identity Card;
b) Curriculum Vitae;
c) Bachelor’s Certificate;
d) Certificate of courses/transcripts which include all the courses of the programme(s), including the respective scores;
e) Certificate or declaration with the final average of the programme, if it is not indicated in the document mentioned in the previous paragraph;

Note: The copies of the documents referred to in c), d) and e) must be properly notarized. The originals or certified copies of the documents submitted through the Application Portal must be delivered in the Academic Division or sent by post until 15 December of the respective academic year, in case the candidate has been admitted and proceeds to enrol in the programme.

Academic Degree completed outside Portugal

a) Passport (or Citizen Card for Portuguese Citizens);
b) Curriculum Vitae;
c) Bachelor’s Certificate;
d) Certificate of courses/transcripts which include all the courses of the programme(s), including the respective scores and final average;
e) Certificate or declaration with the final average of the programme/grade point average, if it is not indicated in the document mentioned in the previous paragraph;

Note: Copies of the documents referred to in c), d) and e) must be properly certified by the Portuguese consulate in the country where the degree was completed, or through Apostille pursuant to the Hague Convention.
The original document, or certified copy thereof, submitted through the Application Portal must be provided to the Academic Division or sent by post no later than 15 December of the respective academic year, if the applicant has been admitted and enrols in the programme.

Separate Curriculum Units

The following persons can apply to attend the Separate Curriculum Units:

– Any student of the University of Lisbon who attends a study cycle where such curriculum unit is elective, or who is enrolled in a study cycle different from the level to which said curriculum unit refers;

– External students to the University of Lisbon, enrolled in other institutions of Higher Education;

-Other interested persons, not enrolled in institutions of higher education.
